Trilian: The Ultimate Bass Solution from Spectrasonics

Trilian is a complete bass solution, combining many types of bass into one powerful virtual instrument. Designed from scratch, Trilian is the most versatile bass instrument available today. It delivers expressive real-time performance for both acoustic and electric basses. It also offers cutting-edge synth bass tones. With its advanced editing features and superior sound quality, Trilian stands out. It builds on the legacy of Spectrasonics' Trilogy bass instrument, providing greater control over musical expression and more flexibility in sound design. Trilian’s 34GB library is 10 times the size of Trilogy and includes new acoustic, electric, and synth basses. Trilian is powered by Spectrasonics’ next-gen STEAM Engine. It is the first instrument to integrate its core library with Omnisphere, allowing seamless use within the Omnisphere environment. Eric Persing, Spectrasonics' founder, explains: “We started with Bass Legends 15 years ago. In 2002, we introduced Trilogy, the world’s first bass virtual instrument. Now, Trilian marks a new era in bass development. Built on the STEAM Engine, it’s the most expressive and flexible bass module we’ve ever created.”

Performance

Trilian’s acoustic and electric basses are sampled in remarkable detail. The software automatically selects the correct legato and release articulations as you play. It also features ‘Round-Robin’ variations, providing more natural-sounding bass lines, even with repeated notes. Newly developed dynamic slides let notes transition smoothly from one to the next. Each bass includes multi-channel mixing with phase-locked mic/amp and direct outputs for added realism.

Bass Instruments

Trilian offers over 60 electric basses, spanning 4, 5, 6, and 8-string variations. It covers fingered, picked, fretless, slapped, tapped, and muted techniques. This gives you a vast range of sounds for any genre. Highlights include the Music Man™ 5-string Studio Bass, Chapman Stick®, Lakland™ Rock P-Bass, Fender® Jazz Bass, Hardcore Rock Bass, and the Retro 1960s Epiphone® Viola Bass. Trilian’s Acoustic Bass is the most detailed instrument Spectrasonics has released. With four audio channels and over 21,000 samples, it delivers stunning realism and depth in every performance.

Sound Creation

For synth bass, Trilian offers new 4-pole "Juicy" and "Power" filters with oscillating resonance, perfect for electronic bass tones. The software includes hundreds of synth sound sources created from over 30 iconic hardware synthesizers, such as the Moog® Taurus Pedals and boutique analog modular synths. Powerful editing tools include the “FlexMod” modulation system, dual filters (19+ types), 6 multistage envelopes, 6 LFOs, dual morphing modulation, and a customizable FX rack. Trilian also includes FX processors from Omnisphere and Stylus RMX. These include a wide range of amp and speaker models, distortions, dynamics processors, equalizers, chorus, phasers, flangers, delays, reverbs, and specialty effects.

Legacy

As Spectrasonics' next-generation bass instrument, Trilian includes remastered versions of Trilogy’s core library. This elevates the sound and expression to new levels. Trilian also includes remastered Bass Legends multisamples, featuring bass sounds by Abraham Laboriel, John Patitucci, and Marcus Miller. These were originally available on Roland expansion boards and the classic MBD-1 rack bass module. They are now included as a special bonus in the Trilian library.

Integration

Trilian is the first virtual instrument to integrate its core library with Spectrasonics’ flagship Omnisphere synthesizer. You can open Trilian’s full sound library within Omnisphere, expanding your synthesis and performance options. Trilian’s Arpeggiator features Groove Lock technology, pioneered in Omnisphere and Stylus RMX. This allows you to perfectly synchronize bass patterns created in Trilian with all three Spectrasonics instruments, simply by dragging and dropping.

User Interface

Trilian’s Custom Controls interface on the Main page of each patch highlights the most useful sound-modifying controls. A single control can adjust multiple parameters simultaneously, creating unique effects. The Custom Controls are MIDI-learnable, automatable, and users can create custom configurations to suit their needs.
